This is a brief instructional video discussing the 5 W's (who, what, when, where, and why). Please refer to this video prior to completing the 5 W's graded activity sheet in the April 15th Distance Learning Packet.

good afternoon everyone I am here again with you to talk about the second part of the ascend mint from the April 15th packet that just came out it'll be on the 5w so I kind of want to refresh your memory in case you're a parent who hasn't worked with this for a while then thought about by sometime and students I'm sure that you'll be able to help your parents long through to as you're going through this activity sheet again this is an aside W and if you look at the parent narrative at the very bottom of the paper it is the second graded assignment that we would like you to turn in your submission now if you were in my 8 a.m. morning group it will be on the story the Woodpecker if you are in my p.m. afternoon group will be using the 5 W's with the story smelly Clyde so what I'm going through right now is pull up my shared screen and we are going to do a little introduction Country View on the 5 W's the five W's you are reading this question who what when where and why and if you do that while you're reading it will help you to better understand the information that you are learning about or information that you're reading throughout the step the text still look who the who is who is the story about Cinderella The Three Little Pigs Harry Potter The Cat in the Hat who is the main characters of the supporting characters in the story The What in the story are the events that lead up to the problem and ultimately the solution at the story The when is when the story is taking place specifically the time is it in the morning afternoon or late in the evening where where is the story taking place the location of a story are you in a park or grocery store at school or somewhere in the woods what is the location of the story and why are answers why these particular things are happening in the story who wrote the story again this could include the main characters and a supporting characters Perhaps it is Fancy Nancy and her friend ring or The Three Little Pigs depending on what type of reading or they could be animals or something else depending on the store the next is the what so these are the exact aesthetic are in the story The include the key details the problem and the solution on the right side of my page here these are some of the sequence of events from the story The Three Little Pigs they are not in order but they are examples of the order I'm sorry of what happened in the story for instant the first little pig built the house and the Big Bad Wolf he was trying to blow his house down but he didn't know that little pigs house down the second little pig that built his house out of sticks and so on and so on those are the what of the story the next part of the story is when the story takes place what is the state this season I what time of day is the story example we have here the difference Seasons spring summer winter and fall where the story is taking place are you in a playground are you at a school are you at the Music Park these are all different examples of possible story set make a little helper here why things have these are the reasons why character says or does things in a story example of a little brother's the pigs were building a house to protect themselves from the big bad wolf who was trying to help other houses in so that he could have a delicious dinner what we're going to do right now is a quick little review I'm going to reach you at the short story called Sammy the squirrel finish the story I'm going to ask you the 5 W who what when where and why Sammy the squirrel was sitting in the park one fall afternoon as he was eating. He felt it still he knew what this meant everything inside and store food treehouse he needed to walk up for winter in order to stay warm and survived it was all work and no play for C but he was happy to be prepared for The Long Winter ahead tell as I said reader the first thing I would ask myself is who is the main character of the story and take a minute and think about it I hope all of you answered Sammy the squirrel please notice that I have it in blue text 2 in the question and the response would be Sammy the squirrel what were the events so if you look back in the story the events of the work he began to eat everything in sight my my my kids at home I need you to be thank you very much Jake he began to eat everything in sight store food industry house up in order to stay warm and survive winter and when did the text take place so that is what is highlighted in the green when it says happening it was a Sawzall afternoon and where did the text take place Sammy the squirrel just how I have that highlighted in pink right there why did the events in the text happen the what was the purpose of Sammy eating everything in sight store in his food in the treehouse and bulking up if you were down at the bottom of the text you'll see highlighted in yellow to be prepared for the long way okay well this is me but why on Earth we have to do this well as I said before when you are reading something if you stop ask yourself these questions the 5 W's who what when where and why it will better help me to understand what you are reading and I will also help you when you're answering comprehension questions story ladies and gentlemen I hope that this helps all of you out I know that if you have any questions I'm here to help you you can reach me at Crouse A Kar a US Apollo Ridge cam don't hesitate to shoot me an email or you can reach out to me on ClassDojo and I will get back to you as soon as possible I wish you all well take care
